There's a version of gratitude that feels like being told to smile at a funeral. Chin up, count your blessings — and you want to throw something.

But the book keeps coming back to something smaller than that. Not be grateful for everything, just: is there one true thing, even tiny, that you are not pretending about?

I find that question harder than it sounds. On a genuinely bad day — real loss, real worry, the kind where nothing is fine — I wonder whether reaching for gratitude is honest or just another way of not looking at what's actually there.

So I want to ask rather than assume: has anyone here found something real to be thankful for when life was properly difficult? Not a silver lining. The smallest true thing.

And if it felt forced and hollow, that's worth saying too. Maybe that's where the honest answer actually lives.
