There is a particular kind of clarity that only arrives from point C. You look back at the chaos between A and B — the wrong job, the detour, the thing that seemed like a disaster at the time — and the shape of it suddenly looks almost deliberate. Like a route.
I find that genuinely interesting, and also genuinely suspicious. Memory is a tidy editor. It keeps the scenes that made sense of what came next and quietly drops the ones that didn't. So there is always a question worth sitting with: were you following a route, or are you drawing one on afterwards?
Both can be true at once. That is what makes it hard.
So — from wherever you are standing now, what only became legible in hindsight? A decision that looked wrong but positioned you exactly right. A loss that cleared something. A delay that turned out to matter.
And if you are feeling generous: does it feel like it was always there to be seen, or did you make it mean something?
