What's the one line from the book you keep coming back to?

There's something Philip does throughout the book that I find really hard to shake — that mix of wanting badly to believe and refusing to let himself off the hook for believing. It keeps the whole thing honest, I think.

But I'm curious which bits have actually lodged in your heads. Not a favourite chapter or a general feeling — the specific line or passage you've found yourself turning over later, maybe on a walk or just before sleep. The one that made you put the book down for a minute.

What is it, and what was it about those particular words?
