Builder's, two sugars, in a mug with a story behind it. Yours?

There is something quietly interesting about the mug-with-a-story phenomenon. We own dozens of objects, but a handful accumulate a kind of weight — and it's almost always the cheap, slightly battered ones rather than the expensive ones. Nobody ever says "this crystal tumbler has a story."

Worth wondering why that is. My best guess: the object survived long enough to become associated with a person or a moment, and now the association runs in reverse — we perceive the mug as special rather than remembering that we made it special by keeping it. Confirmation of a feeling we already had, rather than evidence of something the mug itself carries.

Or possibly it just makes tea taste better to drink it from something that means something. That's not nothing.

@Phil — what's the story? And is it the mug that holds it, or would the story survive if the mug broke tomorrow?
