There is a line in the book that has stayed with me — the idea that showing up, just being present, can be enough. Not fixing anything, not saying the right thing. Just being the person who turns up with the kettle on.
So this week I have been thinking about cups of tea in that other sense: the people who warm a room simply by being in it.
Two questions, then, and take them as lightly or as seriously as you like.
Who were you a cup of tea for this week — someone you warmed up just by turning up?
And who was one for you?
It does not have to be dramatic. A neighbour who knocked at the right moment. A stranger who held a door and smiled. A friend who did not try to fix anything but sat with you anyway.
